MOVEABLE STARTING STALLS

Starting stails were used for the first time in Melbourne in the Richmond Handicap, the principal flat event at Caulfield. The stalls created eonsiderable interest, and many officials from other plubs were present to see them in use. The stalls are similar -in design to those used in Sydney, but are moveable und much lighter. ^ The field in the Richmond Handicap began sinartly, the horses jumping away without the slightest trouble. A team of men was qmployed to remove them so they would not be, in the way when the runners ;entered" the straight. This was achieved before the field l)a(l gone four furlongs. It was eonsidered a most satisfactory trial.
