JUNE MEETING HELD The monthl'y ' nieetftig ' of the. Moutoa Drainage Board was held in the board's office on Tuesday evening and was presid^d over by Mr. S. W. Barber (chairman)-. Also present were Messrs. E. R. Robinson, W. H. Smith, G. Cull, N. I. Easto'h and the clerk (Mr.- G. V. Fraser) .• - 1 ; ■ The clerk reported that the bank balance was in credit-to the extent of £9 -3s lOd. The balances- of the main ledger accouhts were: General account debit £64 16s ld, interest account credit £73 19s lld.--The report was , received and accounts amounting to £100 15s 3d were passed for payment. The foreman (Mr. W. Kruse) reported that during the month 32 chains of Langley 's- North Drain and 11 chains of the Mile Drain were cleaned, and slips and blocks eleared from Carter's and Wall's outlet drains, The n,ext drains to be undertaken were the Mile, Kara Kara North, Wall's outlet and Carter's. The timber from Wi'ntersgill's floodgate had not yet been brought into the depot. The chairman reported that a dragline was operating irn the Kara North Drain at present, and was doing exceptionally good work. Only a few chains remained to be done. The board's contribution would be in the vicinity of £30. "Any time we can employ mechanical methods in our cleaning work we should do so," added the chairman. "It is certainly the best method of handling our drains." This opinion was endorsed by members, who also approved of the work in hand. The Manawatu Catchment Board wrote regretting that its represenatives could not attend the meeting owing to a prior engagement, but suggested meeting the board at the July meeting. This was agreed to.
