Received Wednesday, 10.45 p.m. NEW YORIv, June 24. Ray Robinson, 1461bs., successfullv defended his world welterweight boxing title, at Cleveland. Ohio, when he scored a technical knockout. over his challengpr, the 23-vear,s-old Jinimy Doyle, 147lbs, in the ninth round of a scheduled fifteen rounds contest. Robinson dropped Doyle with a lefit hook near the close of the eighth round. Doyle tried gamely to rise but slumped back to the canvas. The bell ending the round sounded as the referee's count reached nine. It was impossible to revive Doyle in the ring and he was taken to hospital 'Where he was still unconscious an hour after the bout. Doctors said his condition was critical. Doyle nearly met death in the same ring 15 months ago when he suffered concussion as a result of a knockout by the middleweight Artie Devine. Trris necessitated Doyle 's retirement from the ring for nine months.
