QUARTER OF MILLION PRAY FOR PEACE
Received Monda.y, 7 p.m. OTTAWA, June 23. A quarter of a million Catholics joined in special masses and other ceremonies today at the closing of the Ottawa centenary ceiebrations. Crowds prayed t>. the Virgin Marv to intercede with Christ for world peace. Cardinal Spellman, of New York, said in a sermon: "Seeretl.v the nations gird tlipxnselves for another war — a war of « vmihilation. Wc who believe in God p.nd p--ayer must dedicate ourselves to punance in reparation for the sins of th.i.se who will war and love God not." Eneh of the Dionne quintuplets sang a solu during the programme of religious ffimie. It is estimated that 100,000 vi v'oT--- from all parts of Canada aild United States poured iilto Ottawa in, special trains, buses and thousands of ears.
