SHANNON BEAT HUI MAI

Shannon defeated Hui Mai on a rain-soaked ground at the Shannon Domain before a good attendance -of spectators. The mafrch might not have been scintillatifig, but it was a torrid one that had the spectators on their toes throughout. The Hui Mai team were unlucky in losing a -man early in the game and had no replaeements. The honours went to Shannon by 15 points to three. From the -opening whistle play was very even, with both sets of forwards pl-aying hard football. Peni opened the scoring for the home team by gathering up the ball on the twenty-five yard line and cutting in, passing all opposition to touch down under the posts. •Pedersen failed to add the ex'tra points, the ball being very slippery. There was no further score when half-time sounded. In the first few minutes of the second spell the home side were awarded a free kick and Pedersen goaled with a difficult kick. From the kick-off Gadsby broke up a dangerous Hui Mai attack by a fine movement in gathering up the ball and kicking for touch. Play continued to moVe up and down the field until Robinson secured possession to score a nice try and brdng the home team's score to nine. Pedersen's kick fell outside the cross-bar. Determined to lessfen the lead, Hui Mai were on the attack from the kick-off and play was brought to the _ home twenty-five, whefe McCashin, who was playing exc'ellent wet-weather football, snapped up the ball -and Went acress the Shannon line. Gook faiicd to convert a dimcult kick. -Shannon 9, Hui Mai 3. On the resumption a dribbiing rush by the Shannon pack allowed Robinson to gather in the ball and score his second try. P-ederson's k-ick again failed. With the score at Shannon 12, Hui Mai 3, the gable went without incident until five minutes before the final whistle, when A. Wood broke away to add further points to Shannon's lead by scoring near the posts. Pederson failed to add the extra two points. The final whistle sounded with Shannon 15, Hui Mai 3. Mr. S. Graham carried the Whistle.
