FOXTON SCORES IN GAME WITH ATHLETIC

Th'e cu'rtain-raiser was postponed on account of the condition of the ground, which had: pools of water lying in places. The! ground was in a slippery condition and the gatfiie, which was won by' Foxton by 12 points to nine, went to the luckiest team. The bU'ts'tanding player -on the, field was H.. Jacob, the Foxton. and i tepresentative fullback. He was caught out of position only once, : and his handling and line kicking With a wet ball were exceptionally igood. None of the six tries scored during the game were converted, although the kicking by W. Galloway for Athletic waS very .good and he was extremely unlucky with all of his attempts. The teams were as follows: — Foxton: Jacob, Betty, Evans, Jarvis, Winiata, 'Cooper, Lay, Rich- ; ardson, Betty, O'Donnell, Browh, D.' 'Taylor, E. Devonshire, R. Taylor •and Wilils. Athletic: De Castro, MacGregor, Galloway, Lancaster, Hudson, Hensen, O'Donnell, Powell, Lomas, Fletcher, Sciascia, Corbishley, Denton, Eccles and" Everton. , The game opened with a punt-i ing contest between the two sides. -Cooper opened the scoring for -Foxton with a fine .pen'alty three | yards outside the Athletic twenty-j five and in front of the posts. Foxton 3, Athletic 0. Less than a minute later Athletic drew even with a- forward try by Eccles. -Corbishley led his pack through and: the ball was kicked -over the line., Most of the forwards of both teams I dived at • the slippery ball, and, Eccles held it. Galloway 's kick hi-t the upright. Foxton 3, Athletic 3. -A good 50-yard solo dribbiing rush by Sciascia followed and gave Athletic a three-.point lead. Sciascia scored when, a'fter a scrum on -his own twenty-five, he broke through, kicked over Jacob's head 'and raced over the line. Galloway again failed witfi anofcher good! kick. Athletic 6, Foxton 3. After Foxton' took the ball back to the blue twenty-five Jarvis attempted a field goal, and when this failed he followed up smartly and..scored about 10 yards -from the posts. letic 6, Foxton 8. During the interval one of FoX-ton'-s star forwards, Richardson, was replaced by D. Devonshire. During the second spell play skidded up -and down field, with bo'th packs trying to control the ball -in the mad. Foxton again drew in the lead When, from a scrum, the ball went to Cooper, who kicked through. Jarvis raced up, gathered the ball in and scored well out from the posts. Cooper's kick failed. Foxton '9, Athletic 6. - Athletic then swarmed to the attaek and the forwards, with Corbishley in the -lead, took play to the Foxton line. Corbishley snapped the ball up and crashed over for an unconverted try. Foxton 9, Athletic 9. The final and wififiing try of the day came on time from a scrum on the far, side of the field. The ball travelled along the Foxton backlime to Evans, who ran right across the field to the grandstafid side, around the whole Athletic team, and scored a beautiful try about 10 yards -from the corner flag. Cooper's kick screwed ofThis boot. Foxton 12, Athletic 9. The referee was Mr. C. E. Wiseley.
