PLUNKET SOCIETY

SHANNON SUB-BRANCII MEETS The June meeting of the Shannon sub-branch of the Plunket Society was presided over by Mrs. L. W. Wilson, other committee members present being Mesdames J. Creagh, F., Edmonds, E. Barber, J. McNeile, R. Lind and C. Tremewan (secretary) . A letter was received from Dr. J. Milroy Wilson accepting appointment to the advisory board and enclosing a donation of £2 2s. Mr. F. Edmonds also wrote accepting appointment to the advisory board and enclosed a donation of 10s 6d. A letter from a business firm was read giving details and price of scales suitable for weighing pre-school children at the rooms. It was resolved to purchase these scales at the quoted price of £29 13s. Arrangements *• for the annual Plunket Ball were discussed and it was agreed to hold the function on August 14, the decorations to be in keeping with springtime. Mesdames C. Wishart dhd J. Greagh were - appointed honorary secretaries.

, Arfangements were made for the placing of £102 4s, the balance of £142 4s raised at the beautiful baby contest after the £40 asked for had been sent to Karitane, in a special Post Office Savings Bank account, so that when future appeals are made for this object the account can be drawn upon, thus eliminating the need of appealing to the public again. The nurse reported that for the month of May the attendance at the rooms had been good, and all babies were progressing satisfactorily. She stated that it was frequently necessary to stress the point that a lovely baby was a credit to the mother's work, with the aid of the Plunket. Because the Plunket's success depended solely on the mother's efforts, all the talking in the world would not make a lovely baby without first and foremost a mother's care. Five visits were paid to Shannon during May, when five homes were visited. Seventy-three adults visited the rooms, seventy-one babies and two pre-school children.
