OTAKI BOWLING CLUB
ANNUAL REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES The following is'the report present'ed to the annual meeting of the Otaki Bowling Club: "Owing to a late spring the playing season was not opened until mid-October, but a fine summer and autumn provided excellent weather. and bowling was enjoyed to the fuil. The club suifered a very severe loss during the year in the deatfTs* of no less than five of its most prominent members, Messrs. Coventry, Kilmister, Healy, 'Hamilton and Pullman. Twenty new members were elected a'nd the membership is now ordinary 66, life 7, services 4, honorary 4, a total of 81. "The financial 'position is a sound one. Considerable expenditure in top-dressing and seeding the green was incurred, and your committee has undertaken the rekerbing of the green, which will also involve a heavy outlay. "The annual inter-club matches for the Olliver Memorial Shield, Roberts Shield, Hyams Bowl, Centaki Cup, and also a challenge match for the Mexted Cup, were played and good competition resulted in all games.- Friendly games were also played with the Levin, Levin Central and Karori Clubs. The club was strongly represented at the Dominion Bowling tournament at Wellington. Some very good performances were recorded, and all competitors reported a most enjoyable and valuable bowling and social experience. "The following were the winners of the club championships : — Singles: C. V. Pike; pairs: F. M. Boggs and H. R. Eaton; club fours: H. Gow, H. Nicolson, (sub), C. Grey (s) ; domination fours: R. Jenkins, W. Jepson, J. Horn, W. Wilson (s) ; veterans: F. S. Simcox; colts: R. Merwood. Congratulations are offered to Ron. Merwood on his excellent performance in reaching the final of the Wellington Colts Championship. "The committee wishes to make special mention of the splendid services rendered by Messrs. E. T. Bartosh and L. C. Walsh. Mr. Bartosh, as green superintendent, has devoted considerable time and labour to the green, and an excellent playing surface for the coming season should result. Mr. Walsh's enthusiasm and energetic efforts on the club's behalf are well-known. The committee has been fortunate in securing his services as greenkeeper. The thanks of the club are also due to the ladies who supervised the refreshment arrangements during the season, and to the members of the Croquet Club for their efforts on behalf of the building fund."
