NATIONALISTS PREPARING TO ABANDON MANCHURIA
Received Friday, 9.50 p.m. • NANKING, June 20. The Goverrtment forces began removing machinery from the coal mines near Alukdcn today as part of a broad plan to de-industrialise Alanehuria before it can be overrun by the Communists' armies. The neWspaper Tunpao said the Government hoped to develop mines in ^ South China. The AUnister of the Interior (Cliang Li-Cheng) announced today that the hational elections would be held in the autumn as decided by the National Assembly in Deecniber. The anfiouncement is meant to be an offi'*ial contra diction of reports that the Government might dec-ide not to hold the elections in 1947 in view of the acute military and eeonomic situation.
