JOLLY SOCIAL FUNCTION

SCOTTISH SOCIETY MEMBERS' ^ NIGHT Thursday night, members of the Horowhenua Scottish Society gathered in the Druids' Hall fot the second of their monthly social ^venings. A large number were prfesent and were welcomed by the chieftain, Mr. J. R. Macfarlane, Who also thanked the contributing artists. A varied programme, interspersed with popular dances, was enjoyed by all. A pleasing feature Of the programme were the National ' Dancing items, which were well received. The sword dance, performed by MisSes D. Bubb and J. Jack, and the Highland fling by three young girls, A. Bubb, S. Broadbent and C> Dobson, demonstrated that in Miss L. Hepworth they have an able teacher, and along with the other pupils receiving tuition, and who wili make their debut on. a future occasion, Levin will sooh be able to be represented at National dancing championships. Mr. Roy Lester proved popular with the audience in his able rendition of saxaphone solos, while Mr. W. Strode-Penny alsb entertained'with items on the violin, his in§trument evoking not a little curiosity. The accompanist was Mrs. R. Maher. Youth predominated on the programme; and elocutionary items by Miss Margaret Mungavin ganied much applause. The selections by the band and the seryag of a dainty supper by the ladies' committee contributed to an evening thoroughly enjoyed by all.
