LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
"DISAPPOINTED . "
ROSE SHOWS DESIRED Sir, — Once again I think Otaki has missed a good chance. Jubilees are in the air. It is now the jubilee of the Otaki Horticultural and Daffodil Society and the present committee has contented itself with saying at the meeting a few weeks ago, that rose shows do not pay here, and have left it at that. If the members would get together, choose a date and make it public so that growers can prune to have blooms for it, and make a little festival ofit, getting someoneto canvass the public for entries, I think it could be made a very good show. I have. been told on good authority that Mr. Frank Penn, a very keen and; - enthusiastic rose grower of Auckland, and president of the New Zealand Rose Society, will most likely • attend if health and circumstances permit. - There are really quite a lot of roses grown here, and I should like to see the committee make. an effort to get a .good show, as was always had in earliex days. Roses take approximately two months and ten days to bloom after pruning, so the date would need to be made public as spon as possible. Hoping something will be done in the matter. Yours etc.,
Otaki, June 18.
