BRITAIN RESTRICTS HELP TO EUROPEAN RELIEF

Tlie British delegriftion to the Cnite j Nations has sent a letter to SecretaryGeneraL Lie stating that Britain 's contribution towards meeting European relief needs after tlie termi nation of Unrra will consist mainlv of £10, 000, 000. The letter expresses the British Government 's regret that "here can be no prospect in tlie present situation of further eontributions by the United Kingdom toward meeting relief needs ' '. The British effort will consist of a direct contribution of £8,500,000 to ward s Austria's needs with a guarantee of eonimereial credit (already granted) of £1,300,000 for the Austrian pur- ' chase of raw wool.
