R.S.A.'S MONTHLY MEETING
The June • meeting" of the Shannon branch of the Returned Services' Association was ' held in Laurvig's H&ll on Saturday even-' ing, and, was presided orver by -Mr . J. Ritchie. Others present were Messrs. E. J. Gunriing. (se'cretary)V J'. Sinclair, J. Reid, . J. Stevens, -E. •.Morris, R. Quinlan, C. Guerin, R. O'Donnell, B. Clayton, O. Tippler,S./W. Barber, J. T. Bovis, E. Veale, D. Purcell, R. Lange, N. R. Sell, V. J. Bateman and R. Storey. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. F. O. 'Burtt, D. Ait-r chison, R. Hook and J. Kenny. Transfers into the Shannon branch since the • last meeting were Messrs. P. J- Cole, N. Fell and P. F. Booth, while Mr. M. D. Webster was transferred to the Tokomaru branch. The ' secretary reported that the roil membership now stood at 234 members, being made up of 194 from Shannon and 40 Tokomaru members. Of this total 140 Shannon and 36 Tokomaru members were financial. Mr. Gunning reported that the parcels for Britain fund now stood at £46. 15s ld. An appeal is being made to the public to support this fund and' subscriptions are being made public through "the news columns of "The 'Chronicle." It was agreed that Messrs. B. Clayton, C. Guerin and R. Quinlan should represerit - the Shannon branch at the Levin R.S.A. reunion. The secretary .was aske'd to write to Mr. S. H. Roberts, who is still an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital following an accident, expressing the wish from all local members for a speedy recovery so that he may soon join his fellow members again. It was also agreed that letters bf appreciation b.e forwarded to Messrs. B. J. Jacobs and C. O. Bell for the services rendered to the N.Z.R.S.A., and wishing'them all the best for the future. A letter was received from the Moutoa branch of the W.D.F.F. inviting the president and secretary of the R.S.A, to a function in the Moutoa Hall on Wednesday evening. It whs resolved that the vice-president (Mr.' B. Clayton) and the secretary (Mr. E. J. Gunning) represent the branch! It was resolved that a letter be sent to the State Advances Corporation, Palmerstah; North', bringing to its notice the 50 per cent. preference to ex-serylce personnel in • the allo'cation-' of the State house units neari'pg ppmpletion "in Grand Street and . else where in Shannon. - Following a report by the entertainment c'ommittee with regard to a social'to be given to all organisations . who during the w.ar years. assistied; ih raisihg. fupds for soldiers' parcels,; ahd tb bthers whb have : asSisted . tfie ? Bovis the recommendation of the entertainment committee was approved, and it was agreed that a combined eoncert and dance be held, it being left to the entertainment committee to arrange items to be given by the Tin Hat 'Club and local and district talent. Tlie subject of parcels for Britain was again under discussion, and on the motion of Mr. B. Clayton it was agreed that a further •number of parcels be ordered to be despatched to England. It has since been advised that 44 parcels have been ordered for despatch.
