DRIVERS PRONE TO ACCIDENT MAY LOSE LICENCES

WELLINGTON, June 17. " Accident-prone drivers will bo interviewed Dy trafhc inspectors," said the Minister of Transport, Mr. O'Brien, today. "At present there are a large uumber of drivers on the road who have had uiore than one accident involving personal injury or who have a history of traffic convictions. Some of these drivers had as many as six accidents in which persons have been injured. Many measures have been introduced for the safety of traffic and much advice and informative material has been offered for the guidanee of road users. • ''Most accidents which occur daily are due to failure to v observe the code of courtesy and common-sense. Where a driver continually fails in this code of behaviour he becomes a potential danger on the road and should not continue to hold a licence. Accordingly it is proposed to review the licenees of tliose drivers who had more than one accident involving personal injury within a reasonable period. An experienced traffic inspector has been appointed to interview, examine and veport on the driving characteristies of all these 'accident. repeaters' and, where circumstances warrant it, consideration will be given to the revoeation of the driver 'a licence.
