FLOODS IN TASMANIA.
HO-BART, June 17. Bathing suits were prominent in the middle of Tasniania 's winter wlien the worst floods for 30 vears struck the south-eastern and northern distriets of the island. Many families have been evacuated. Wlien the Huon River burst its banks, prize cattle, sheep and fowls were drowned, miles of feneing and orehards damaged and at least 750 aeres of good grazing land eovered by the flood-waters. The Derwent River rose 6 feet in four hours at Macquarie Plains. II un dreds of farmers in the river valley are ,cut of? and at least 15 families have been foreed to l.eave their homes. Furth.ey flooding is expeeted today as the water in the New Norfolk area whieh is witliin .6 inches of the 1916 record, is still rising.
