APPRECIATION RECORDED

MR. G. A. MONK'S SERVICE TO COUNTY COUNCIL Tn formally accepting the resignation of Mr. G. A. Monk from t#e office of chairman of the Horowhenua; County Council, it wished to .place on recprd the respect and esteem afor the manner in which he had' conducted the responsibjlIty of his office. This was part of a motion unanimously carried at the monthly meeting of the -council after -the election of Cr. A. ,J. .Gimblett to the .positio'fi -of chairman, vacated by -Mr. Monk foilowing 'his appointment to the •Local. Government Commission. The niotion continued that at also -be placed on -record that an •his service" Mr. Monk had display:ed judgment, ability and impartiality of a very high order, and ■that in relinquishing office he didso in the knowledge of having gained and held the utmost confl*? dence of -succeeding counqils throughout the years of his service, and had made a worthy and lasting contribution to the welfare of the county of Horowhenua in the various sectiops pf local .government in which he had been interested. -Cr. Gimblett Nomiuated There was ;a possibility of- ;Gr. Giniblett resigning from the council dt the end of the coming term, said Cr. W. Taylor when fhe county clerk, Mr. F. H. Hudsqp, declar.ed the position vacant and -called for nominations. For that ■reason he would like to see Cr. Gimblett accept the position. Cr. Gimblett had served on the couh.ci! lor 19 years and was now tjhe senior member. -It would be a fitting tribute to his work and sound judgment for the councirto -eleot him its chairman. Cr. Gimblett had a good grip ';of county -matters and had put his heart and soul into his -work of assisting , the advancement -of Horowheniia. The motion was seconded by Gr. A. M. Atkins, who also referred'to the splendid service of Cr. Gimblett. There were no further nominations and the motion was carried unanimously;. When thanking the 'councillors ;fqr their gesture, Cr. Gimblett added that as the posi.ti.on .was a difficuft one, he trus.ted he would receivfe the same- cdoperatiori as had been accorded his predecessor. >
