UNION E&&CUTIVE MEETS A fqrther fqptbail player in the! Horo'wheniia Rugby Union has ! been suspended until he appeaps | before the union's management committee and it decides other- i wise. This was decided at Tues-! day night's meeting of the com-l mittee, when a letter was received! from Mr. D. McMillan, who! refereed the match between Punahau and Shannon last Saturday! when the incident occurred. In his letter, Mr. McMillan said! that during the game he hqd to order the player off the field. He had previously cautioned him for foul play, but after being tripped by a Shannon player he turned around and struck that player. A further letter from a rpferee, Mr. H. Kingsfoeer, was received reporting on last Satur-day's match! between Athletic' and Hui ! Mai seniors, when the game was won by Athletic by 12 points to 11. "I wish to report an. incident of a kick at goai from a try by Hui Mai.: The ball, on being grounded, was charged by Athletic and th^ ball in its flight was deflected from an Athletic player's hand over the crossfoar. in my excitement I ruled a goal. Then, realising I had made a mistake,* ruled the conversion out. I wish to make it .clear that at no time was I irfluenced in my decision by anyone." The let-! ter was received. A letter was received from the Wairarapa Rugby Union confirm-! ing June 28 as a suitable day to; play a senior representative I match. Tbe game is to b.e played at Carterton. The committee: decided that the team and officials; would leave at a convenient time on Friday, June 27, to enable the players to be fit for their match. Mr. O. Coie was appointed manager of the team. . Ir was .decided • to reseind a previous motion that the junior championship would be decided' over three r.ounds. The championship will now be decided o^er two rounds. The Lieensed Victuallers' Cup for the junior comp.etition will be played. for in place of the third round under.the same conditipns as the Nash Cup. The secretary was instructed to write to the New Zealand Rugby Union aski'ng for a game with the Mapri All Blaeks if that team did not carry on with its tour of Fiji. The Bafeman Challenge Cup, donated by Mr. V. J. Bateman, was presented to the union at the meetmg. The cup will be for competition in the fourth grade and will be for perpetual challenge. Shannon Club will be the first! holders. The cup was accepted with thanks. Permission was granted Horowhenua College to play tlje annual football game against the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College. The • match will be between the second fifteens.
