Personal The friends of Mr; Allerby, of Buckley, will be pleased to hear that he Is progressing favourably following a recent op.eration in the Palmerston Nbrth Hospital. v Mr. R. E. Downes is at present in Wellington, where he .is attend-, ing the annual conference of the New Zealand .Labour Party. During his absence borough affairs are being controlled by the DeputyMayor, Mr. R. R. Lind. Motor Drivers' Licenses The renewal of motor drivers' licenses for the 1947-48 year is now being carried out by the Shannon Borough Council at the cou'ncil office during norma! office hours. Badminton Club Dance " Loeal badminton members, as W'ell as the dancing public of the district, will'be looking for ward to the Manakau Badminton Club's dance, which is being held in the Manakau Hall on Friday evening. A professional orchestra has been engaged and there will be many novelty attractions. Plastic Sky-lights Something modern in sky-lights is now being fitted in one of • Shannon's business houses. They take the form of a corrugated sheet of clear plastic. All that is necessary to install the sky-lights is to remove a sheet of roofing iron and fit the sheet of plastic in its place, nailing it down. No frames are required. Football Club's Loss The Shannon Football Club has suifered the loss of several of its senior players this season through linjuries -and other reasons. It is hoped that many of these players will be seen on the field again next season, if not before. Those players who are "out of the team are Messrs. D. Aitchison, R. Higgott, M. Moynihan, H. Ellison, S. Chester and D. Ccle, all of whom have suifered injuries. Messrs. T. Keriona and E. Chester have left the district.
