OBITUARY
mr. j. w. list - Mr. J. W. List, whose death occurred recently, was one of the old identities of the Hutt- Valley. Mr. Lost was 69 years of age and nad spent a greater portion of his life in the Hutt Valley except for a brief period when he took up farming pursuits at Otaki. Approximately 38 years ago he was . a member of the Petone Borough Council, remaining in office . for several years, being Senior Councillor and Denuty Mayor. He displayed an active mterest in locai aiiairs and in the oetterment of the borough, being at the same time a member of the gasworks committee, Hutt Park committee, secretary of the Petone District High School, secretary of the Druids' Lodge, Petone Navals, and Gear Company Fire Brigade. Mr. List came to New Zealand from England with his parents at the early age of two years, and received , his education at the Rangiora* High School. His brother, Mr. T. C. List, late proprietor of the Taranaki Daily News, was one of the original members of the Hutt and Petone Chronicle over 50 years ago. Of late, Mr. List had been a well-known figure at the Wellington Trotting Club, where he was empioyed until ill-health compelied him to relinquish his duties approximately 12 months ago. He was intenseiy .interested in the crotting sport and took a personal interest in the club and its doings, and the recent successful meetings of the club afforded him
lmmense satisiaction. Mr. List is survived by four sons — S. D. List, Wellington. Wm. List, Lower Hutt, C. H. List, Timaru, and L. J. List of Melbourne, Australia.
