CARNIVAL QUEENS HONOURED

PRE SENTATION BY FIRE BRIGADE About sixty people gathered in the Druids' Hall on Thursday evening as the guests of the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade at a social ' evening given by the brigade in honour of the three young ladies who had represented the eommittees "as their queens. A delightful evening was spent in dancing and a tap duet was given by Misses C. Stern and M. McLean. During the supper interval the| opportunity was taken by the5 superintendent, Mr. C. G. Wishart, to call upon the Mayor, Mr. ,R. E. Downes, to present to the guests of honour, Misses Ngaire Peach, Helen Gardner and Dalla Ropoama, suitably engraved, silver powder bowls. In his remarks, the Mayor congratulated the young ladies on the amount of hard work and interest they had taken in the carnival, and hoped that if at some future date they should again be called upon to offer their services, they would do so as willingly and effectively as they had done in the carnival just past. The result was indeed a credit to the young ladies and their eommittees. Mr. Wishart also added his personal thanks and the thanks of the brigade and" the public for the excellent work done by the three queens, and hoped that the small gifts would be a reminder in years to come of the time they had helped to raise funds for a fire engine for the town. The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of the wives of the firemen.
