HASTINGS, June 4. For tlie first tirne this season, in-lauib breeding ewes were forward in substantial numbers at Stortford Lodge today. With buyers present from the West Coast and Wairoa, a strong demand existed and the marlcet had a healthy tone. Top iirice of the day was 39s 6d for an attractive line of 4 and 6-tooth ewes which wftre mated with Southdowns from February 20. Most of the entry of 5000 head eonsisted of breeding ewes. Six-year-olds sold at 24s to 28s, iive-year-olds from 29s Gd to 32s, four and five-year-olds at 34s to 34s 3d, six-toothsat 30s, 2 and 4-tooths at 39s Gd and 2-tooths at 34s Gd. Hoggets were also again subject to a strong demand to sell on a fairly firm market with wether hoggets at 26s to 28s 4d, woolly ewe hoggets at 30s 3d, and shorn ewe hoggets at 27s 3d. The market for wetkers was a litlo easier when a good yarding of fat sheep came forward. Otker elasses of slieep were fairly lirm. Prime wethers made 39s 7d to 40s id, medium 38s lOd and unlinished 31s lOd to 35s 4d. Heavy ewes were traded at 28s 4d to unlinished at 21s lOd to 22s lOd with extra prime young ewes at 31s 7d. Hogget values ranged from 27s 4d to 32s 4d. In-ealf eows dominated the store cattle scene when a yarding of 1G00 head was offered with buyers from the West Coast included in a full bench. Bidding was well sustained on genuiue lines. Values for in-calf cows ranged from £5 9s to £7. .A line of fresh eonditioned empty cows was passed in at £6 17s Gd. Bulloeks in fresh order made £11 IGs. Ilising three-year steers were passed in at £12 7s and medium rising two-year steers realised £7 2s. With an unusually heavy yarding of 290 head of beef thcre was a slight easing in values, saies being made at about sehedule. Heifers provided the large portiou of the entry, prime sorts selling at £12 IGs to £13' 13s Gd. kle dium heifers made £11 8s Gd to £12 11s and unlinished £9 ls to £10 11s. Prime cows realised £11 IGs to £12 ls, medium £10 16s to £10 18s Gd and lighter £8 IGs. to £9 18s Gd. .Ox were in fairly short supply though an attractive con signment of Hereford bulloeks added interest to the sale for tops to sell at from £20 ls to £22 ls. Medium ox sold from £16 3s Gd to £18 13s Gd and light from £9 13s Gd to £13 18s Gd. Runners were traded at from £4 ls to £5 2s Gd and vealers at from £2 ls to £4 8s. WESTFIELD MARKET AUCKLAND, June 4. Fewer pigs wero offered at Westfield and competition for pork was keen. Baconers sold at late rates but biddmg was not as free while choppers and stores sold readily.'
