WELLINGTON , June '4. This year the Ahuwhenua Trust Board has awarded flrst. piace in the annnaP eonxpetition amongst Maori farmers for the Ahuwhenu troplxy to Mr. Wiremu Matene Naera, of Waiotemarama. . , Second place is awarded to Mr. John Savage, of Opoutere, and third place to Mr. Mihi Stevens, of Eangiahua; Favourable eommendation was also aceorded to Mr. Tiaki Tamati, qf Fix"0ngia, and Mr. Eruera Hoera, of Takahue. - The judge for this year 's contest was Mr. E. H. Arnold, of the Department of Agriculture, Whangarei. .The Ahuwhenua trophy was presented by Viscount Bledisloe during his term of ofS.ce as Governor-General, for competition betmeen Maori farmers who are assisted by the Government under the native.' land development scheme. On Mareh 25 of this year, at Cleveden, Viscount Bledisloe was present at a gathexing where the trophy was presented to the winner of the 194(5 contest, Mr. Henare Paraone, and where, in his address, he paid a handsome tribute to the gr.ovting . efficiency and high standard of hustyindry being attained by the Maori farmer. This year's winner, Mr. Naera, was placed third in last year's contest.
