PROTEST BY FARMERS
WELLINGTON, June 3. "The observations of Dr. Percy Dunsheath on the power situation support statements made for a long time
.i J . 1 " by leaders of the farming community," says an oflS.cial statement issued last night by Eederated Parmers. ' ' As Dr. Dunsheath says, the encouragement of industrial expansion at a time when the consumption of electricity is being curtailed does not seem to 'make sense'," the statement continues. ' ' Likewise, adherence- to the 40hour week in proceeding with the con§truetion of ' Maraetai will seem to thinking people also not to make sense. Eederated Earmers ' theref ore" ur-ge a reconsideration of the policy of industrial expansion in New Zealand. "ApaTt from the fact that we have not the labour to staff adequately our existing undertakings, the supply of po.wer to new industries must be made at the expense of present consumers. If rationing had to be made more* severe, the Dominion may find that by adhering to our present policy she may cripple her main industries. "It is clear that a review of present policies is vitally necessary, and it is to be hoped that such a review will not be too long cLelayed. "
