Hospital Rate Also Shows An Increase The general rate in the borojigh for the year ended March 31, 1948, wiil be increased 2d in the £ oji the uninjproved value and the hospital rate ,ld in the £, This decision was reached at a special 'meeting of .the 'Levin Boropgh Council Jast evening, when the estimates for the year were fraiped. The various rates are as f.oilows, fchar for the past year being given in parentheses: General rate, 9.1d 7.1d) in the £; hpspital rate, 2.5d' f?.4d) jn the £; Manawatu. Catphment Board rates, ,3d (.3d) in the £; "and water rate 2.1d (2.2d) in the £. AIJ are on the unimproved yalue. No major new work is provided for, but.the increase in the general rateas necessary to coyer the eoncinually rising costs of maintaining the existing services in the borough. Provision has been made in the general account for the very necessary ladies' conveniences at the Levin Park Domain at an esti'rpated cost of £350, In the waterworks account a sum of £620 has beeh included to cover the coSt of laying down mains in new streets, and £175 for pieters to register consumption. A suinmary of the • estimates in the yarious accounts is given below. General Account In the general account revenue other th.an rates is -estimated at £8198, the prineipal items being rents from jnunicipal buildings and other sources £3565, heayy traffic .fees £650, Government subsidy on rates £450, building permits £400, interest £320, drivers' licenses £270 and employees' contribution to National Provident Fiind £275. Rates are estimated to produce £10,465. Expenditure is estipiated at £18,744. The ipain items are street maintenance ' £4434, interest on loans £2179, salaries £1750, maintenance reserves and gardens £770, holiday and sick pay £625, Levin Public Library £663, Levin Park Domain (maintenance £250 and ladies' conveniences £350) £600, general office expenses £550, street lighting £450, maintenance of buildings £425, National Provident Fund £410, insurances £375, interest on oyerdraft £300, Fire Board levy £298, printing and stationery £275, ladies' rest rooms £275, building inspection £200, machinery replacement fund £200, and repairs to windows in munieipal buildings £200. Water Supply Account The water supply account budgets for a surplus of £74. Revenue is estimated at £4438. The chief items are current rates £2149, rates from outside the borough supphes £1450, railway engines and public buildings £400, conneetions and services £150 and supply tq Mental Hospital £110. This 'prihcipal ' ^S'tiihated dxbbndi'ture is interest and prmciple repayments on loans £1576, maintenance £929, services asnd extensions £500, new mains £620, meters £175 and renewal fund £200. Miscellaneous items added make a total of £4438. Sanitation Aecount The estimates in this aecount provide for a deficit of £124. Gharges are estimated to produce £525 and arrears £10, a total of £535. Payments are estimated at £659, made up of debit balance at commencement of year £119, wages £345, pans and disinfectant £80, rent of depot £45. and miscellaneous £70. Library Accpunt Receipts are estimated at £1168 in the library account. It cornprises transfer from general account £663, extra books and reserves £450 and subseriptions £55The items of estimated expenditure are salaries £550, books £400, lighting, heating, cieaning and sundries £i00, iiiterior alterations, £50, papers and magazines £08, printing, stationery and telephone £25 and insuranee £5, a total of £1168. Hospital Levy Aecount The rate of 2.5d in the £ in the hospif.al levy account. is estimated to produce £3025 and arrears £5, a total of £3030 on the revenue side. 6n ihe expenditure side the year Starts with a debit pf £37. The levy tp the Palmerston North Hospital Board is £2783 and estimated commission to p-eneral account £150. A credit of £75 is budgetted for.
