Personal Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Lucinsky and Mrs. L. Pigott are spending a few days at Rotorua. Mr. Pat Roach, of Wellington, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Roa'ch, Sto'ut Street. Mr. and Mrs. W, Blanford, of Wellington, were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Peach, Ballance Street. Mr. and Mrs. Colin Campbell, of Carterton, were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. Campbell, Vance Street. Mr. M. Peach, of Wairoa, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Peach, Ballance Street. Mr. J. Humphreys, of Wellington, visited Shannon for the weekend as the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Humphreys, Newtown. Visitors to Shannon from Taihape for the Buckley Golf Club's King's Birthday tournament were Messrs. T. Kincaid, S. A. Savery, D. H. Sisson, L. E. Patrick, E. Armstrong, A. H. McGinniss, C. Weller and R. McKay. Card Winners The prize-winners at the card evening conducted by the Shannon branch of the Labour Party last week were Mrs. Ropoama and Mr. O. Hermansson. New Houses for Foxton The Resident Construction Co., Ltd., have made a start on the first of the batch of eight State house units to be constructed on the corner of Russell Street and Avenue Road at Foxton. Quiet Holiday in Shannon Yesterday was a very quiet day in Shannon, the majority of the residents seeming content to stay indoors as the day was somewhat chilly. Racing enthusiasts journeyed to Wanganui and a fair sprinkling of Rugby' followers went to Otaki for the Maori-Pakeha match. ' Musical Milestone Another musical milestone for Foxton was passed on Thursday evening when the Mayor, Mr. H. H. Podmore, officially opened the newly-constructed' band hall in Cook Street. On Thursday, for several miles from ; Himatangi northwards, thie ' highway was strewn 'with unused letterheads in two sizes, complete with the Government seal and headed "Ministry of Works, Office of the Building Controller," with the usual reference panel. It appeared as if some well supplied paper chase had been staged, but more likely some luckless lorry driver had lost portion of his consignment. Revival of Table Tennis An effort is being made to revive the sport of table tennis in Shannon. It will be recalled that the sport was carried on by the Young People's Club in the Parish Hall, and later a club operated in Mr. Tippler's building in Ballance Street. Table tennis is fastly becoming a popular sport through the country, and it. is without doubt that there are a number bf enthusiasts in" this town who are> anxious to see the sport revived. A meeting for the purpose of forming a club is being held at Shannon Motors at 8 p.m. on Thursday evening, when it is hoped that a good attendance of followers will be present. An open invitation is extended to all interested persons.
