British political quarters believe that Lord Louis Mountbatten wib return to India with wide powen to act on his own initiative at a conference with Indian leaders on June 2, says Reuter's* political correspondent. It is also believec". that the Government was much impressed by Lord MountbattenT positive approach to the situation In New Delhi today Mr. Ghandi said: "We cannot think coherently while British power still 'functions in India. All Britain has-to do i. withdraw and leave India, if possible, carrying on in an orderly manner. It is not for Britain tt change the map of India."
