♦ . • CORONIAL INQUIRY OPENED AND ADJOURNED An inquest into the death of Miss Patricia Maud Guthrie, aged 19, who was killed at Te Horo on Friday evening when the bicycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a car. driven by Mr. M. R. Gore, of Levin, was opened before the distri'ct coroner, Mr. H. Nicolso'n, on Saturday. The parsnts of the driver of the car were present, and Mr. Guthrie, father of the girl, Mr. B. H. Rhodes watching proceedings on his iehalf. Mr. H. G. Wylie, and his son, who had recently become engaged to the deceased, were also present. Mr. Guthrie stated that he had idehtified the deceased as his daughter. She was 19 years of age and was employed as a machinist at the works of Otaki Tex'tiles, Ltd., where she. had been for about three years. On' the evening of the accident she was cycling from ber work to her home at Te Horo. She was expected home at about 6 p.m. When he' saw her prior to her leaving for her work on the morning of the accident she was in her usual good health and spirits. He received word of the accident, but on arrival. at the scene had found that his daughter had passed way. The hight of the accident was fine but dark. Sympathy for the bereaved was extended to the parents and relatives by the coroner and others present. The inquest was adjourned sine die. The deceased, who was . only recently engaged, was , of a very bright and cheerful disposition, a favourite with all who knew her, especially by her work-mates. The bereaved relatives have received many sympathetic messages in their sad loss.
