AUCKLAND, May 23. The finest golf' in the first day's match play of the £750 Victory opou tournament at Titirangi, was played by B. M. Siik, of Wanganui, winner of the 72-hole medal competition,\and the finest mateh was played by W. Allbon and A. J. Shaw in the second round of the professional event. Silk scored nine birdies in a round of 69, the iowest score recorded at the tournament so far, and Allbon defeated Shaw on the 20th green with the aid of an almost complete stymie. - Silk, E. H. Glading, H. D. Brinsden and D. :L. Woon reaehed the semi-final of the amateur championship and A. Murray, Jim Galloway, Allbon and A. E. Guy reaehed the similar section of the professional championship. Results: Professionals First round: A. Murray beat J. Lambie 7 and 5, N. H. Fuller beat J. Weir 3. and 2, A. H. Dyke beat C. C.
