HIGHER WAGES FOR PRINTING INDUSTRY
WELLINGTON, May 23. A complete agreement upon the* terms for the new award for the newspapei publishing .gnd printing industry, waconcluded today by the ConciliatiOn Oouncil at which the Commissioner, Mr. S. Ritchie, presided. The agreement provides an inereasi of 10s lOd a week in the wages of akjourneynien, bringing the wage fot compositors to £6 Is and that of linotvpe operators to £6 17s 6d, with the preservation of the established margins for other classes of workers. In a memorandum^ attached to the agreement. it is explained that the in creases include 8s 4d added in expecta tion of an increase in the standarn rates under an Arbitratiou Court pronouncement and that in the event of a larger increase being made, -it was agreed that the rates will be adjusteiL The rates for female wrages are in creased by 5s similarly subject to revievv after the Coui-t's pronounceinent. Minor amendments ivere made in the machinery elauses and it was agreed that tlie term of the ward should be one year.
