MAX SCHMELING MAY FIGHT AGAIN

Former. "world ehanipioh} . Max Schmeling, only professional fighter ■' to beat Joe Louis, is reported to be seriously planning a comeback campaign. Well. past 40 years of age, Schmeling has many scars of wounds he received during the late war when he was several times reported killed. He was to have begun training at a camp in Friedrichsruh, Germany, this year. Just when he was about to get under way, however, the coldest winter Germany has experienced for 30 years set in, and, with coal even harder to find than in New Zealand, he was literally frozen out, and so he decided to postpone his start until warmer weaher came. Unquestionably a good fighter in his day, Schmeling started his professional career in 1924, at the age of 19, and had his last fight in 1939, when he k.o.'d Adolf Heuserin in one round in Stutt'gart. He won the world heavyweight title by beating Jack Sharkey on a foul in 1930.
