OTAKI FOOTBALL CLUB

A meeting* of the committee of the Otaki Football Club was held on Thursday night, Mr. E. J. Cook presiding. A letter was read from the Petone Club, asking that a tearfi be .sent on King's Birthday (June 2) as the club wished to reciprocate the fine welcome accorded by the Otaki Club when Petone visited this towh. A dance would * be held in the evening and an enjoyable time was promised. — It was decided to reply that as .this was the day of the Maori-Pakeha game at Otaki, it would be impossible to make the trip, pointing out at the same time that many players would want to watch the match. It is to be suggested to Petone that the match be played later in the seapon. The Horowhenua Electric' Pov^er Board wrote regretting that "it could not see its way clear to allow lighting on the domain for football practice. A letter from the Horowhenua Rugby Union stated that Huff, Webster and Winterburn had been re-graded to junior players. The union also wrote relative to players being cautioned, and stating that steps would be taken on future occasions to see that strict measures were carried out. Players, after a first warning were likely to be harshly treated. The union also asked for support for a third grade tournament. Mr. Price wrote from Te Awamutu, accepting office as a vicepresident and enclosi'ng £1 ls.— Accepted with thanks. It was decided to write to Mr. Vern. Cahill (president) , now in Bowen Hospital, wishing him a speedy and complete recovery. .It was greatly regretted • that, members of the committee were contrnuously absent from meetings and it was saggested that unless they displayed more interest in the club they should be asked to resign and thus allow more interested members to take part. A third grade match between Horowhenua and Manawatu wil be played at Otaki, and the chairman reported that he had made arrangements for. accommodatioh as desired by the union. ,
