CHRISTCHURCH, May 14. Tlie following South Island players have been seteeted to take part in the All Blaelc trial game at Wellington on Saturday : — • Backs: T. Webster (Southland), W. G. Bond (Canterbury). In trials between South Island teams, Possibles against Probables, at Lancaster Park today, the Possibles won by 3 points to nil. The ground was in good order but not fast. Half-way througli the second spell light rain set in and made the ball' difficult for the backs ; to handle. From the start of the ganie, play was fast and open but a slow ser j vice from both scrums lcft the flveeighths with little chance to penetrate the solid defenee. put up by both sides, Argus, wing three-quarters for pos sibles, and J. C. Kearney, five-eightlr for Probables, were the two outstanding backs on the day's play. The backs generally, hovever, did not appear to be np to All Black standard. Both sets of ; forwards played' Soutli Island football at its best, although when the ball was dry both sides showed preference for passing instead of footwork. Towards the end of the game when the-. forwards took control. play was fast and willing and had the crowd worlced to a high pitch of exeitement. The only scoring movement of the day was engineered wh'en Meates, who had replaeed Goddard, and J. C. Kearney combined in a bright movement, Meates taking an inlield pass to go over wide out.
