AUSTRALIAN ROOFING TILES FOR N.Z.?
Received Tuesday, 11.10 p.m. CANBERRA, Mav 13. Roofing tiles were being exported to New Z ea land where export'ers could get liigher priees than were allowed on tho loeal market, said Mr. Beale (Liberal, New South Wales) in the IIousc of Representatives todav. ]\fr. Beale asked wliat export licences had been granted for t'hesc tiles and wliat steps were being taken to malce tiles available for Australian eitizens. Tlie Minister of Housing, Mr. Lemmoii, said he was not aware that roofing tiles were being exported. He would eonfer with the- Minister of Customs, Senator Cortice, about export licences. He did not think it possible that tlie tiles were going to New Zealaud. Australian tiles could not be exported 011 a convpetitive basis, liaving iWard to the freiglit rates to New Zealand.
