The Ruprome Conrt by a five to fonr judginent todav, rejeeted the Fnited Stales Government elaim to Palmyra Tsland and gave the title to the Aus-trnlian-born Leslie Pullard Leo and his South Afrienn-born wife, Tlelen. Palmyra is 700 niiles south of ITono ltiln and is now used as an emergoney airfiehl for the Paeilie services. The I-nited States Government spent several niillion dollar.s on the island during the war after dispossessing the Pullard Leos who elaimed tliev bought Palmyra in 1022 from two Tlawaiian eitizens who had seeured tifle to tlie island from Iving Kameham eha TV of Jlawaii. T'nited States eonfended/it had gained title to Palmyra, along with olher Ilawaiian publie lands, in 1898. Leslie Pullard Loo has lived in Honolulu for .30 years where he had a prosperous cOntraeting business.
