The House rejeeted on the voices an amendment to the Greelc-Turkish Aid Bill . seeking striet ' prohibition against •the sending of atom bombs or fissionable material to either Greece of Turkey. Other amendments, .of which various; representatives have given notice, mclude, firstly, the reduction of the en tire appropriation by half; seeondty, the elimination of military aid; thirdiy. the rejection of the Truman doctrine and reaffirmation of U,nited States-. pledge to defer to United Nations authority on "all economic, politicai and military conditions threatenmg world peaee"; fourthly, the- withdrawai of aid if either country is deemed, m the President's judgmeut, to be dereliet in its own efforts to support its economy; fffthly, the limitation to 100 oi the military mission tb each country. The first real test vote eame when the House .shouted down an amendmeTu which would have postponed aid' to Turkey for one year pending Uniteo Nations' investigations of threats to that countrv's security. The House by 127 votes to 37, defeated a technical motiou to' kill the Bill. Mr. George Bender (Republican, Ohio) moved that the measiive's enacting clause be eliminated. "This would kill the Bill if you want to do that," he said. "Let us get it over." The amendment was thereuponVe.-jected. The dehate was adjourned till tomorrow. The Bill's supporters said tne • defeat of AFr. Bender 's amendment marked tlie virtual end of the fight ana predicted that the Bill would be passea liy a big majority.
