GUARD INJURED IN TRAIN COLLISION

When the engine of the ineoming |)assengei- train from Wellington struek the end_of an outgoing goods train in Petone railway yards at 5.15 p.m. today, two vans of the goods train were derailed and the guard seriously injured. The line to Wellington was blocked but all traffic was switehed to the single shunting line through the station by 6.30 o'clock and the interruption to the service betwe.en Wellington and Hutt Valley was not great. The longest any train was held up was 25 minutes. The injured guard was Mr. William Penhale, aged 54, of 5 Carroll Street, Ngaio. He wras admitted to Wellington Public Hospital with head injuries and concussion.
