The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital yesterday of Mr. Charles Edward Wakelin, of Levin. Mr. Wakelin, who was in his 62hcl year had resided in Levin for a long period, latterly in' Bath Street,- He leaves a widow and.adult family" of two daughters and three so'ns. The funeral takes place tomorrow, leaving the Queen Street Hall after a service at 1 p.m. Congratulations to Mr. G. A. Monk, of Horowjienua, on his appointment as a member of the Local Government Commission, were extended by the No. 9 District Highways Council -at its annual meeting in Palmerston North this week. Mr. Monk had an unbroken record of membership of the council covering the period of 24 years since its inception, and the council placed on record its appreciation of his valued services. , Mr. A. B. Shannon (Oroua) was elected to fill the- vocancy on the executive caused by Mr. Monk's resignation. Mr. W. E. Barber (Mana wa tui. . was re-elected as the other meir7 J ber of the executive.
