WEDDING OF LOCAL INTEREST
ELVINES— CORNFOOT Rev. C. Hoskins, of Bulls, .. was the officiati'iig minister at a pretty* wedding of wide interest .which took piace at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Ohurch, Palmerston North, on March 25, when Betty, Marea, seco'nd daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Cornfoot, Surrey Farm, Bulls, and James Lhoyd, younger son of- Mr. and Mrs. C. Elvines, Mangaore, Shannon, plighted their troth. Tl*e church was beautifully decorated for the occasion with large' bowls of flowers in shades of blue, with white interspersed. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a trained gown of heavy ymagnolia satfn, which featured a peplum and frills of eyelet embroidery. The Brussels lace veil, lent by an aunt, Mrs. H. Cornfoot, was held in place by" a coronet of begonias and she carried a shower bouquet of cream belladonna lilies and chrysanthemums. She also wore the bridegroom's gift of a gold necklet and pendant. Pink carnations, roses and blue delphihiums in their bouquets and hair sprays blended with the frocks of pastel blue worn by the bridesmaids, the bride's two sisters, Misses Lenore and Ava Cornfoot. Their mittens and yokes of the frocks were ' of blue and silver French lace, and they wore the bridegroom's . gifts of gold crescent brooches with initials.
The. bridegroom was attended by his only brother, Lieutenant Dexter Elvines, who obtained special leave from the Union Steam Ship Company's "Hinemoa" for the occasion, as bestman, and by Mr. Jack Roots, of Palmerston North, as groomsman. During the signing of the jegistef Mrs. Eyles, Bulls, sang a solo. The reception was held at the P.D.C., where the bride's mother received the 150 guests in a periwinkle blue frock, with navy accessories. She was assisted by the bridegroom's mother, who wore a navy ensemble trimmed with henna sequins and navy accessories. Later the bride, wearing a gold coloured suit with smart brown hat and accessories, and the bridegroom left to connect with an aeroplane for Christchurch, from whence they set out on a leisurely tour of the South Island. • Mr. Elvines, who is engaged in farming, will, with Mrs. Elvines, be setting up home near Bulls.
