WELLINGTON, May 1. In a statement today the Minister of 'Defence, Hon. ,F. Jones, announced that . the New Zealand Army component of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force will be reduced from a brigade gfotip of approximately 5200 personnel to a brigade on a reduced basis of 2400, all ranks, ; This reductipu' will be effected as the relief of the present Army component in Japan is arranged." * Of the number of 2400 that will constiiute the new Army force, 2000 will be| sent from New Zealand and the remaining 400 will be found from volunteers with the present relief forbe in Japan who have ehgaged to remain on for a further period of service.
