BETTER ACCOMMODATION FOR SEAMEN
GREYMOUTH, April 30, The opinion that aceommodatibn for setlmen on vessels plylng in Dominion waters was inadequate, uninviting and deeidedly uneomfortable, was voieed by various members of the exeeutive oi the Greymouth Chamher of Commerce at the monthly meeting. It was decided to write to the -Seamen.'s Union asking full eooperation in obtaining a speedy turn round of .sliips and at the same time request the Shipowners: Federation to endeavour to make conditions more attraetive to seamen. The chairman, Mr. R, N. Anderson said the sound of ships 1 sirens to recall seamen wlio overstaved leave, was more frequent here latterly.
