VANDALISM AT DOMAIN

sports bodies asked to help prevent damage j ■ When reporting on the improve- ] ments at present being carried } out at the domai'n, Cr. J. A. Roach told the Shannon Borough Council at its fortnightly meeting on Tuesday evening that cases of wilful destruction. of the work not yet cample.ted was being done at the domain. Damage- haS already been done to one of the windows. All councillors agreed that this was a serious state of affairs and it was decided to write to the sports bodies usi'ng the domain, , asking them to co-operate in the preventing of vandalism at the domain. , t , The public can rest assured that the three sports organisations usi'ng the domain, namely, the football club, the ericket club and the marching association, will be right behind the council . in reporting any cases of wilful damage to the police. It is only recently that some attention has been paid to the domain in an . effoft to bring it.up to a standard in keeping with sports grounds of the district, and if cases of vandalism are allowed to continue it will not be long before the grounds are an eyesore to the town. Already the three sports organisations are co-oper-ating with the council i'n an effort to improve the domain, and within a few months the grounds should be in excellent order, The council is doing its part m bringing the pavilion into a good state of repair. and the" sports bodies are seein'g to it that the ground itself will be brought up ,o a high standard. However, if disrespectful citizens are allowed to wilfully damage the buildings and the convenlences, it will not be long before both the council. and the sports bodies lose interest in their project.. > Surely, this town .is no worse than our neighbouring towns, and there are ma'ny citizens who fcake a pride in public parks. It is up to each and every citizen of this town ,to impress upon those who thrive on vandalism that the domain is their property also, even if they have no desire to use it as a sports grdund. Every citizen must try to make them see i,hat perhaps a small amount of work in the other direction will build them up in mind and body and they will eventually realise how childish and foolish their actions have been to cause damage to public;.: pfpperty. ,If, however, they canhotHisten to reasoning, there is a badly defaced notice board(;^ the pavilion, drawing the ;attention of the public that a reward oi ' £5 is payable to anyone reportihg damage to the domaim ; * ■" • ' It is up to citizens to see that public property is respected. The council and sports organisations have made a start and it is hoped that the public will also offer their support in bringing the local domain up to a standard with the other public parks in the district.
