HISTORICAL NOVEL CONTEST
DUNEDIN, April' 30. The Otago Daily Times anuounces a competition for a work of fiction to be competed for in the centennial year of the provincial district of Otago. The prize is oft'ered of £200 for a work of approximately 100,000 words, having a New Zealand kistorical theme and Whitcombe and Tombs Ltd. have agreed' to publisli the winning novel and to pay the author royalties at the customary rate of 10 per cent. of the published priee. This competition will be open to all persons born in New Zealand or permanently living and domiciled in New Zealand at the date of the. closing of the contest (March 31, 194S). Captain Frank John Garfieicl Warren. wharf superintendent of the Union Steamship Company at Auckland, died yesterday aged 63 years.
