PARAPARAUMU NOTES
(From "Chronicle" Correspondent) A large number of members of the Anglican Church Guild beach branch met at the home of Mrs. G. Sweetman, Manly Street, for their annual meeting and election of officers. A bring-and-buy stall did excellent business to swell the funds of the guild. The officers appointed were: — President: Mrs. G. Sweetman; vicepresident : Mrs. I. Hickson; secretary:" Miss D. Cobb; committee: Mrs. G. Rigg, Miss Rita Maclean, Mrs. V. Smith, Miss Peachy, Mrs. Cheltenham, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. White Sc.ott and Mrs. Roberts. Afternoon tea was served and thanks were extended to Mrs. Sweetman for the use of her room. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt in the district on Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, formerly of Wellington and now of Waimate, Canterbury, are holidaying at the beach. Miss Stewart, a very talented young lady in literary and art circles, is shortly to marry Mr. R. M. Algie, M.P. for Remuera, where their future home is to be. A large crowd attended the Anzac service, which was held in the Coronation Hall. Those on the platform were Revs. Wright and Rickells, Mr. Potts and Dr. L. J. Hunter, of Levin, who gave a very inspiring address. Afterwards many beautiful floral emblems were laid at the memorial gates of the reereation grounds.* ■ Much sympathy is felt for the relatives of Mr. D. L. Drewitt, who died recently in the Wellington Hospital. He was a soldier of the first world war and the attendance at his funeral at the Paraparaumu cemetery was a large one, members of the R.S.A. attending . in full force. ________ .
