BRITAIN'S EXPORT LOSSES
(Special Correspondent).
LONDON, April 26. The Manchester 'Guardian, eommenting on Britain 's export figures for March which eoinpare with those of September last, says it would not be wise to assume that tlie last of ' the 'effects of the February production stoppage have yet been seen. "We must nwait- April and later figures before being in a position to measure the loss to our exports eaused by the fuel crisis.": Referring to the rise in * imports which were the highest since 1925, the paper adds that a partieularly satisfae- ' tory feature was the quantity of retained imports of raw materials which was nearly £5,000,000 more than the January-February average. "The rise in imports and decline in exports in Mareh necessarily resulted in the growt.h in our adverse balance of trade but at this stage in our ecomonic kecovery, it is vital that industry should be sustained with as high a level of imports of raw materials as possible."
