DEATH PENALTY FOR RAPE TO BE ABOLISHED
Eeceived Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, April 27. The State Attorney-General, Mr. Martin, has prepared legislation to abolish the death penalty for rape. The jiroposed legislation will empower child welfare "authorities to deal with' adolesi cents found guilty of sexual offences. Mr. Martin said at an election meeting that he had prepared a complete revision and an amendment of the Crimes Act which had not been overliauled for many years. The six boys between tlje ages of 14 and 16, who were sentenced reeently to life imprisonment for rape, have been transfeiyed to tlie Emu Plains prison farrn as an alternative to serving their terms with adult prisoners at the Long Bay gaol.
