SMALL FIRE LOSS IN LEVIN

BOARD CHAIRMAN REVIEWS .. . PAST YEAR The b'rigade had attended eight fires during the ■ year ended March 31 last,' said the chairman, Mr. F. E. Parker, in his report to the annual meeting of the Levin -Fire Board on Thursday night. The fire loss was £462 of £1000 insurance. The fire station property, grounds, plant and equipment had been maintained in good order, continued Mr. Parker. .J"he town water pressure remained good, although some of the smaller maihs would be better for a pressure clean. The brigade continued to train its members and a skeleton staff at the Levin Farm, Kimberley Road, where first aid equipment was . ayailable. -The services of the St. john Ambulance Brigade, Levin Borough Council, Levin Post Ofece and Horowhenua Power Board had been appreciated. Superintendent W. S. Salmons reported that the brigade had held 14 practices and 13 meetings during the year, with good attendances. He asked the board to procure some new hose as there was insufficient to deal with, say, -wo fires close together, the 1000 feet received from the Goverm ment, being only seeond grade, was leaking badly. Proyision was made in the estimates for the purchase of some new Tiose. The Levin, Farm wrote stating that it understood the brigade had a hand siren which was not in use and asked if it could be loaned to the institution temporarily. The chairman advised that this had been made available to the institution. One applieation for brigade membership was received and approved. Those present at the meeting were: Messrs. F. E. Parker (chairman), A. H. Clerke, J. C. Milnes, T. W. Henderson, E. Hayes and F. P. Walkley (secretary) . Before the business commenced the chairman weicomed Mr. T. W. Henderson, of Wellington, who had been appointed to suceeed the late Mr. F. DesmGnd, expressing the hope that he would have a happy association with the boards of .the district, Levin, Otaki and Foxton.
