WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

MEETING AT OTAKI There was a good atiendance of nembers at the monthly meeting ( if the Otaki Women's Institute. i Mrs. Walter Taylor, the new presi- i ient, was in the chair. The meet- ( mg cpened' with the singing of the L'nstitute song and N.Z. National ( A.nthem, and the members repeated the aspirations. Berore commencing the bus- r iness of the meeting, Mrs. Taylyor i made reference to the excellent work done by the retiring presi- 1 dent, Mrs. A. Lumley, the secretary, Mrs. McConville, and treasurer, Mrs. Townrow. 1 Mrs. Ashwin sang- a bfacket of ■ delightful songs, wnich were greatly appreciated. Mrs. McConville also recited a "thought for today." The annual council meeting, to be held at 'Manakau on April " 30 was then discussed, and Mesdames W. Ralph and A. G. Allan were elected voting. and reporting delegates respectively. (t was proposed to hire-a bus to run to Manakau and members who wished to attend were asked to hand in theif names. The bus would leave Tasman Beach at 10 a.m. Mrs. King proposed that for the next two monthly meetings a bring-and-buy stall should be held, the proceeds to go to the parcel funds. Parcels had hitherto been sent to link institutes 'in England, and now they would be sent to relatives . of the members of the Otaki Institute. Letters were read from recipients of parcels, expressing great delight and fchankfulness for the contents. The 16th birthday party will be held ' in the Anglican Hall on April 23, all members* to bring a olate. Mrs. Kirk, a new member, kindly offered to make the cake, and the offer was accepted with applause. .Miss Brown, ''the newly elected secretary, said it would give her pleasure to teach members to croquet and also to do tatting. Several members gladly closed .vith the offer. The hostesses for the day were Mesdames Davies, Duncan, . Empson, Evans and Anderson. Winners of competitions were: Best shrub, Mrs. Bowey; best lower: Mrs. • Ivan Malture: bottled plums: Mrs. A. E. Taylor. The competition for April will be best sponge, without fllling, and prettiest face cloth. The roll call is "Home Hints."
