INVERCARGILL, April 20. The first day of the Southland Racing Club's Winter Meeting on Saturday ended on a sensational note when the Judicial Conunittee 6f the Cluh, • which met .after the last race and ai'ter a prolonged inquiry found P. Dalliessi, of Dunedin, guiity of corrupt practice and disqualified him for. life. Dalliessi, owner of/Diarma, which contested the Bluff Handicap, was. charged under Rule 338, 1A, with offering a hribe to L. W. Hare to run second with Detain in the Bluff Handicap. The charge was laid by the stipendiarjt steward, Mr. C. F. Hartland. After evidence' had . heen taken from J. A. WilsoU, owner-trainer of ' Detain, L. W. Hare, rider of Detain, and Dalliessi the Judicial Committee decided to disqualify Dalliessi for life. Detain, which was a pronounced favourite, won the Bluff Handicap in which Diarma was unplaced. The life disqualification imposed on Damessi also means tnat aii norses owned by him are automatically disqualified. Diarma, which won the Southern Cliampyon Hack Handicap at Riverton, is one of the most promising three-year-olds that have been raced in Southland this season.
