.AUCKLAND, Apnl 1/. Why oue of his friends luid stopped Oue king horses witli bookmakers, was told by tUc secretary of the Aucklumi Trotting Ovvners', Trainers' and Breedors' Association, ALr. C. L. Craig, to the (jaming Coinmission today. His friend, saicl Mr. Craig, iaid a £1 bel on Wairoa Belle wliich paid over a £1000 dividend but the bet was laid witli a bookmaker and there was a linnt of £7 10s. In the next 20 years, said Mr. Craig, his friend had uot bet witli bookmakers. ' ' Wliat it really means is that the bookmakers liave got the impression that trotting raees are not only more easily rigged than galloping but are' rigged," said the chairman, Mr. .Tustice Finlay, wlicn the question of tlie smaller limits plai-ed on trotting races by bookmakers was discussed. His re marks followed a statemeut by Mr Craig that the Owners' and Trainers' Association did not fear corruptio.n creeping in. Ilis Honoiir said there was a differ . ence behveen the association 's view and the bookmaker 's view on this niatter.
