In the letter he had stated that land was available but that nothing had been done since 1938. The people of Otaki, he considered had had a raw deal ovei State housing, and they did nol wish the present state of affairs to continue. Frequently the council received appiications for houses but not one was available and considerable hardship was being experienced. The number of applicants was now well over thirty Mr. Thorn had promised during the election campaign to take the matter up, but it appeared thal nothing has been done as the result of his efforts. Councillors approved the Mayor's action, and expressed the hope that as a result Otaki would benefit. It was also suggested that £ copy of the letter be sent to Mr J. J. Malier, M.P., but the Mayoi said his had alread'y been done and he had received a reply thal he (Mr. Maher) would do ms besl in the matter. Cr. Cook stated that tendere had been called for the erection oj houses, but that no tender hac been received. The town clerk, Mr. Alex.
